Review of White Salmon, Washington

In the beautiful Columbia River Gorge
Star Rating - 9/16/2009
Positives: Friendly community, good schools, many outdoor recreation opportunities, safe place to raise a family, Four robust seasons.

Negatives: High real estate prices, limited employment, lots of wind and weather, limited public transportation.

Since moving here in 1993 and watching White Salmon continue to grow over the years, I have been very grateful for my choice of place to live. There are many outdoor recreational opportunities from windsurfing to skiing, hunting and fishing, river recreation, and hiking and bicycling. However, White Salmon isn't and doesn't feel like a tourist town. It's a small town, with a good heart and family values.

Hood River is just across the river for those who want more nightlife. Portland is just an hour away with larger city amenities. However, I'm always grateful when coming home to White Salmon.
